Joe Klaus’ “Copy, Cut, Paste” — 3rd Street Gallery

When: Friday, March 3rd – Sunday, April 2nd (gallery hours vary)
Where: 3rd Street Gallery, 610 S 3rd St

Member artist Joe Klaus show “Copy, Cut, Paste” opens at 3rd Street Gallery on Friday, March 3rd. The show will run through Sunday, April 2nd.

This assemblage of photo-based work explores the parallels of memory, identity, and space by melding art and utility. In this collection, “art” is the altered photos, which are juxtaposed with “utility”: the classic Microsoft functions “COPY” (control c), “CUT” (control t), “PASTE” (control v).

A mix of studio, street, and landscape photography, these images were shot on 35mm film, scanned digitally, copied on a Xerox machine, and cut to size. I then pasted them to boards to create larger images, painted, collaged, and manipulated them, applying a new reality onto the photos’ subjects.

No matter the contents of the photos, whether a construction site, individuals walking, or a study of the body’s movement, the end result is the same: these images give the world a more colorful and dynamic lens through which to view it. Take your time and soak it in; there’s no need to CTRL, ALT, DELETE.

3rd Street Gallery is an Artist-Owned and Run Cooperative of local area artists. They’re located at 610 S 3rd Street. Normal gallery hours: Fridays, 4pm – 7:30pm, Saturdays, 1pm – 5pm, and Sundays, 12pm – 4pm.
