Jim Brossy’s “No Wrinkles” — 3rd Street Gallery
When: Friday, May 5th – Sunday, May 28th, (gallery hours vary)
Where: 3rd Street Gallery, 610 S 3rd St
3rd Street Gallery features Jim Brossy for the month of May 2023. This Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts M.F.A. recipient crafts highly textured, mixed media, assemblage paintings using artistic, construction and found material. Tar, latex, cement, plaster, string, and steel all make appearances in his paintings, in addition to the more traditional acrylic, pastel, pencil and oil. The mixed media aspects add a literal and figurative gravity to the subjects. His paintings speak to the prevailing social issues and injustices of contemporary society.
In his show, ’No Wrinkles,’ Brossy focuses on the frequently overlooked, older women doing domestic chores. A woman hoists a sagging sheet to dry on a clothesline while nearly being enveloped by the chore. Another unloads laundry from a dryer that seems to never end. Brossy believes there is no distinction between living and making art. The painting is not a representation of life, but a real thing, an object in real space
3rd Street Gallery is an Artist-Owned and Run Cooperative of local area artists. They’re located at 610 S 3rd Street. Normal gallery hours: Fridays, 4pm – 7:30pm, Saturdays, 1pm – 5pm, and Sundays, 12pm – 4pm.
