Gay Matchbook Covers

Craig Smith co-authored and published two photo-books featuring matchbook covers from gay clubs, bars, hotels, and restaurants collected in the United States between 1971-1982. In many cases the venues themselves were breaking municipal or state law by serving customers self-identifying as gay or homosexual. In some other cases the clubs were vessels for a wide range of activity and counter-culture community building.  Come here the author talk on his experience and collection at the Shoe!
