Dove Nasir, “Don’t Make a Scene, Dove” Opening Reception — 3rd Street Gallery

Please join 3rd Street Gallery for the opening of Dove Nasir’s new show “Don’t Make a Scene Dove” on Friday, March 25 from 4:30pm – 8 pm.

Since I was a small child, I was frequently told “don’t make a scene Dove”.  In these childhood “scenes”—which ranged from carrying on in the department store to family dramas—I was always the star of the performance.

During the pandemic there was no place to make a scene, and I found myself missing the ability to perform. Therefore, I began working in my studio creating and photographing scenes, with me in the starring role.

Many of the photos have recurring themes, with both live and inanimate cast members.  The various wigs worn by me in these scenes are different characters, who play supporting roles in the dramas.
