On the other end of the block sits a historic firehouse which once employed Philadelphia’s first black firemen, better known as the Defenders of the Seventh Ward.\nFor generations, the Seventh Ward was the indisputable heart of Black Philadelphia, boasting the largest black population of any northern city. Its rich, complex history is an inextricable part of PMG’s history. Find out why during this short talk which will include an examination of one of Isaiah Zagar’s most iconic murals: “Rose and the Firefighters.”\nThis short talk is free of charge and open to everyone.
