This year marked the fifth year of Tree Cycling in Philadelphia. With support from Whole Foods Market, Bartlett Tree Experts, Bella Vista Neighbors Association, Queen Village Neighbors Association, Friends of Jefferson Square Park, South Street Headhouse District, Connor Barwin and Councilman Mark Squilla, as well as our stalwart volunteers, Tree Cycle hosted six sites, including three in the District, and chipped 753 trees into mulch, surpassing last year’s tally by over 150 trees.
The initiative has become a part of the holiday tradition for many and continues to be a demonstrative means of creating more conscious consumers. Volunteers collected a small forest of pine trees that were chipped by professionals from Bartlett Tree Experts. Mulch from the trees was dispersed to area parks. In fact so much was collected that anyone who would like to take home a bucket, bag or barrel full is welcome to collect it at Jefferson Square Park, located at 4th Street & Washington Ave.
