Indie Film Series 2010 PDF Print E-mail


As part of a summer-long local arts initiative, Headhouse Square will serve as a platform for Philadelphia filmmakers through the South Street Headhouse District Indie Film Series every Wednesday night from June 16 to September 1. All screenings begin at 8 PM. Local Philly Bands will perform before screenings every other Wednesday. Complete schedule below.
 
The Series is an organic opportunity to introduce local films/filmmakers to a diverse audience in an intimate and interactive setting. Filmmakers will be encouraged to discuss their artistic process with viewers prior to or post screening, providing insight and setting the tone for the feature. All films have a connection to Philly whether the film was shot in the area or the filmmakers are natives. The schedule is below.

June 16- Saddle Up


Director: Todd Wolfe/Peter DeFeo
TRT: 100 minutes
Synopsis: A washed-up “cowboy and Indian” duo from the glory days of television struggle with much hilarity to make ends meet.
Music: The Spinning Leaves will begin playing at 6 PM

June 23- No One Dies in Lily Dale

Director: BJ Levin
TRT: 84minutes
Synopsis: Mediums, séances, and life after death—common topics in Lily Dale. It’s the world’s center for the religion of Spirituality, where its peculiar and captivating residents communicate frequently with the dead.

June 30- No Footing

Director: Michael Licisyn
TRT: 82 minutes
Synopsis: All 23-year-old Madison wanted to be was an artist. Now out of college a year and a half, she finds herself no closer to successful career then when she began. Stuck in a dead end job at a local copy shop, her relationships crumbling around her, and a complete lack of inspiration to aspire for more, Madison attempts to jump start her career and get her life started.

July 7- Two For Three

Synopsis:  When two friends fall hard for the same girl, the boundaries of their relationship are tested amidst a whirlwind of betrayal, addiction, love, and lust in this genre-bending drama.

July 14- In A Dream

Director: Isaiah Zagar
TRT: 80 minutes
Synopsis: Legendary mosaic artist Isaih Zagar has covered over 50,000 square feet of Philadelphia with his stunningly beautiful art over the past four decades.  Finally, we are given a look at his story within this documentary, which not only chronicles his work and tumultuous relationships, but also delves deep into the issues surrounding blurring of the lines between art and reality. http://www.inadreammovie.com/

July 21- Big Bang Kiss

Synopsis:  Yugoslavian crime film!  A big deal naturally goes wrong, throwing three partners-in-crime into an unlikely relationship with an American actress filming in the same location as their hideout! Greed, betrayal, and lust run rampant as the actress becomes hopelessly entangled in their criminal life.

July 28- The Village (Night of Shorts)

Since its inception in 1986, The Village of Arts and Humanities has transformed a 260 square block area of North Philadelphia, one block at a time, through a neighborhood revitalization program that has evolved into a major provider of arts-inspired programs including education, land transformation, construction, and economic development. Today, The Village is a multi-faceted, award-winning center of artistic innovation, serving thousands of residents in North Philadelphia through free after-school art programs for teens, environmental initiatives, and family-oriented cultural activities.  
 
The teens of The Village will present their short films and other creative works in this special teen showcase event.

Synopsis: A drama centered around three high school seniors - an aspiring actress, her misfit best friend, and a loner - who become engaged in an intimate and complicated relationship.

August 11- Generation Rx/ God Speaks: Philadelphia Against Violence

Director:  Harry Fleckenstein/ Makia Harper
TRT: 30 minutes/ 50 minutes
Synopsis:  Generation Rx is an unflinching look at the prescription drug crisis in the United States, as best evidenced in the lives of our youth, to whom prescription drugs are readily available and often even recommended.  Generation Rx attempts to further reveal the truth behind drug abuse. This evocative documentary profiles the efforts of local community members and leaders working to end violence in Philadelphia. The film interweaves stories of activism and loss in hopes of finding a solution to the skyrocketing homicide rate in Philadelphia and throughout the country.

Director: Nick Gregorio

Synopsis: An aspiring businessman moves to marijuana-friendly California with high hopes of opening a government legal dispensary and seeing the “green” roll in.  But a moratorium placed on seller’s licenses just as he arrives forces him to consider other drastic plans to stay ahead.  An ex-girlfriend that he still loves who is dating his boss, and his lovably ever-stoned best friend only complicate matters.

September 1- Birth of Separation

Director: Louis Mansfield
TRT: 105 minutes
